Which Bathroom Tile?
Choosing the Right Bathroom Tile
The bathroom may be one of the most difficult rooms in the house to decorate due to its relatively small size and limited usability. It turns out the bathroom is also the most common place in the home to find tiles. By choosing from among our extensive list of tile products, you can create a beautiful bathroom space that is also functional and durable.
Our tiles for bathrooms come in a number of materials, including ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, and glass. When choosing your style, remember that a well-designed bathroom can significantly increase the resale value of your home. Here are some things to consider when choosing the right bathroom tile:
Area to Be Covered
Tile in the bathroom is usually installed on floors, walls, and splashbacks around the sink. You need to determine the entire area you will be covering so that you know how much tile to buy. There is also the question of tile size for each area you plan to cover.
Smaller tiles are more appropriate for smaller spaces, especially in bathrooms in which toilets, sinks, and bathtubs are close together. Smaller tiles also do not require cutting in most cases.
For larger spaces, consider medium or large tiles. Remember that the size of tile you choose will directly affect the perception of the space. Small tiles for a large bathroom are too busy while large tiles in small spaces do not create a nice flow. You may want to mix and match different sizes to accommodate different areas within your bathroom.
Style Choices
Choosing your style and colour should be a combination of your personal preferences and the look you are trying to achieve within the space. Remember that light-coloured tiles will make a small bathroom feel and look bigger. Darker colours tend to reduce perceptions of size. And, of course, certain shades of browns, creams, and other colours add a sense of warmth.
Some of our clients choose natural stone for bathroom floors because it allows them to bring the outdoors in. Others prefer the more clean and industrial look they get from ceramic or porcelain. In the case of natural stone and some polished porcelain, your bathroom tiles will need to be sealed in order to keep out moisture. This is especially important in the shower area.
Also, remember that your bathroom needs to be kept clean to avoid mould, stains, and other non-hygienic conditions. Choose a tile that is as easy to clean as wiping the surface.
Floor Heating
Many of our customers are concerned that tiles on the bathroom floor will be cold on the feet. This is normally not a problem because tiles retain heat very well. However, if you are concerned about a cold floor, you can lay down a wood sub-floor first rather than installing tiles directly over concrete. All of our bathroom tiles perform nicely with installed radiant floor heating as well.
